How can having negative thoughts attract negative things in someone’s life?
Things or events are neither positive nor negative per se. They are what they are. The world is what it is. It is an objective existence. Negativity only exists in the mind of a person.

Hi

Thanks for an interesting question. Hopefully, I can bring a few pieces of the puzzle together with this answer.

About negative people
Have you seen how similar people often group together? It’s not uncommon to see negative people staying together and feeding off of each other’s negativity. It’s not difficult to understand why. Personally, when I feel negative about something, I quickly want to find another person who is equally negative so that my feelings can be validated. I want to dwell on that negativity because it makes me feel that I’m right and others are wrong. It brings me a sense of purpose and it feels good, at least momentarily.

So, if your mind is negative it is only natural that you will have many negative people in your life. You will consciously or unconsciously seek such people, and such people will seek you.

We see the world as we are
We see the world as we are. If two people witness an event or experience a hardship in life, one person might say that the event is positive or neutral, and the hardship is an exciting chance to grow, whereas the other person views the event as something negative and the hardship as a complete disaster that threatens to ruin that person’s (probably already miserable) life.

Things or events are neither positive nor negative per se. They are what they are. The world is what it is. It is an objective existence. Negativity only exists in the mind of a person. So if I view the world from a mind full of negativity, that is what I will experience. Conversely, if I view the world from a mind that is positive, that is what I will experience. What we generally call life is merely the story that our mind tells us and this story is a reflection of the quality of our mind.

Making a change
Personally, I’ve been mostly negative in my life. I’ve been, and I still am, quite an immature person. I demand a lot from others and the world without always taking responsibility for my own actions or realizing that it is me who needs to make a change. Since I started to meditate, however, I’ve come to understand that I have to work on my mind. Gradually, I have started to view the world differently. I start to see that I am the one to be blamed for whatever negative things that happen to me because I created that reality in my mind. Thus, if I let go of that mind, I will be able to see something beyond the negativity and act from a different place, a place that is of truth and naturally positive.

I think we all need to meditate because it liberates us form the ridiculous and immature way of living a life where our main purpose is to satisfy our self-centered – and very negative – mind. Meditation helps us grow up.
