If I throw away the pictures, will I lose my memory?
First of all, it seems that the misunderstanding of photography (remembered thoughts of the life lived) and memory should be resolved.
Memory is an area that you cannot delete or improve at will. The only time the memory is deleted will be when the brain is physically damaged by accidents or something. You might have seen such things often in movies or dramas such as having a short-term memory loss due to a car accident. On the other hand, if you were able to record your memory as much as you want, you would have become a genius to remember everything. Just as you can’t start your gastrointestinal exercises, control your heart rate, or blood pressure at will, your brain is also an area that you can’t control.
Therefore, let’s end the misunderstanding here that you will lose your memory by discarding pictures.
Then, what are the pictures you are discarding from this meditation?
Pictures are nothing more than the false minds which have been continuously stored in your mind through your five senses and are mixture of your own feelings, emotions, judgments, analysis, etc. The pictures you have do not exist in the world and also there is no one who has the same pictures with you. As those pictures are only in your mind, they are just illusions only seen to you.
However, those pictures have become your world in your mind overlapping the real world, and you have also lived your whole life inside there as a picture, not as a real one. All the pain, burden, stress, problems, unresolved questions and doubts you experience are all come out from these pictures. As those pictures which is the human mind are fake, there is nothing right or useful inside them. Rather, they are only obstacles to living a happy life while achieving what you want, as they are covering Truth within you.
When the pictures are accumulated in your mind, your body’s function deteriorates due to poor Qi circulation, and a lot of energy is wasted in dealing with those pictures, making you tired and exhausted easily. When the pictures increase much, they also hurt your health, and eventually become the cause of serious diseases. In the commonly spoken words “stress is the source of all diseases,” stress eventually means “a lot of pictures.”
On the other hand, memory is something that you can take out and can use, when you need it. And, it’s the function of your brain.
It is okay if you can recognize your acquaintances when you meet them and it is okay if you can answer to it accordingly when you are asked a question. It is okay if you can get to your destination safely without getting lost, and it is okay if you can do what you have to do properly without missing it. It is okay if you can apply the knowledge and information you have learned properly when your study or work.
But, the pictures, the remembered thoughts of the life lived, are different. Whether you need them or not, they keep running in your head and making you unable to focus on the present. Even if you have to work or study, the pictures drag you to the past and the future or drive you into unwanted anxiety and worry.
Surely this adversely affects your brain health and memory. It is for this reason that most people experience that the more they throw away the pictures, the better their memory and concentration.
Let me put it together. All that you can bring up in your mind are pictures and it is okay that you can throw all of them away. As it’s the brain’s job to record or retrieve memories in a timely manner, there is nothing you can do about them. Even if you throw away all the pictures, surely there will be nothing wrong with your memory, and you will actually become much better in recording and using the information you need.
Throwing away pictures will improve yourself and every aspect of your life. And, all that you lose will be your own stress from your false human mind.
